Credentials Required for NEW Substitute Educational Aide/ParaPro

1) Stark County ESC Application through SchoolSpring Job Board

This application gives us your contact and background information; you will also choose your location preferences in this application

If you already have a SchoolSpring account, simply SIGN IN or SIGN UP by adding your email and creating a password.
You can complete the PROFILE, or you can go directly to the job listing, click SUBSTITUTE AIDE/PARAPRO, and "apply for this job."
If you already have a PROFILE, you must still apply for the specific job posting: SUBSTITUTE AIDE/PARAPRO as we have specific information in our application that is not in the profile.
The last page is a "review," then you will need to "affirm" and include your initials before submitting the application.

2) Transcripts/Diploma

Copy of high school diploma or official college transcript is required.
All uploaded transcripts should be legible, in PDF format (no JPG), and include the registrar's signature and key/guide/legend.
When scanning a multi-page transcript, create ONE PDF document per college/university. (If needed, our office can scan your official transcript into PDF format for you.)
If you do not have at least 48 semester hours from an accredited university/college, you will be required to take and pass the ParaProfessional Assessment. Click here for more information on the ParaPro test.

3) Background Check through Fingerprinting

Both BCI and FBI background check results through fingerprinting are required.
As a new applicant, valid results can be no older than one year (365 days) and electronically sent to SBOE at the time of fingerprinting for licensure purposes (code 3319.291).
Stark County ESC offers background check services by appointment only (total cost for both BCI and FBI is $53).

If you use a different fingerprinting facility, you would need to make sure of the following:
- Both BCI and FBI required.
- Must be electronically sent to the Ohio Department of Education at the time of fingerprinting for licensure purposes (reason code: 3319.291).
- A copy must be mailed directly to: Substitute Office, Stark County ESC, 6057 Strip Ave. NW, North Canton, OH 44720.

4) Licensure issued by the Ohio State Board of Education (SBOE)

An Educational Aide Permit with ESEA Endorsement is required unless you hold a valid Ohio standard teaching license OR a substitute teaching license issued by the State Board of Education.
If you do not have at least 48 semester hours of credit from an accredited university/college, you will be required to take and pass the ParaProfessional Assessment (see information above in Step 2).
After your application has been submitted, you will receive an email with instructions on applying for your licensure through the SBOE.

After the above four steps are completed and reviewed, you will be contacted via email for additional information regarding “next steps” in completing online documents and public school works. We do assign a Gmail account to our subs – once this Gmail has been issued, we will only use this email for future communication regarding substituting and payroll.
