Valley of the Shadow  The Valley of the Shadow project at the University of Virginia examines two communities, one in Pennsylvania, the other in Virginia from the time of John Brown’s Raid  through Reconstruction, using primary sources such as letters, diaries, journals, newspapers, cartoons and images of Civil War battlefields, soldiers and civilians, politicians and those on the home front.
