Stark County ESC Early Childhood Programs

The Stark County Educational Service Center believes children learn best when given opportunities to explore and manipulate age-appropriate materials in a safe, nurturing, and carefully planned environment.  Each activity chosen is based on the developmental skills of children.  This Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) promotes gains in all areas of development, while making learning fun.

Teachers develop and extend children's interest through a literacy-language rich curriculum.  Ongoing developmental progress is assessed regularly, strengthening teacher instruction and children's learning.  This process builds a strong foundation for future learning success and a positive transition to kindergarten.

The Stark County ESC works in collaboration with 11 local school districts to provide preschool services to children ages three to five who are at risk, identified with developmental delays and special needs or are typically developing.

Early positive experiences build strong, healthy development in children.  A robust developmentally appropriate preschool experience is provided.  Children learn best through play-based activities in a language rich environment.  The early childhood program provides instruction and specialized services by qualified, warm and responsive teachers, teacher assistants and service providers.

The Early Childhood curriculum is aligned with The Ohio Department of Education's Early Learning and Development Standards.  These standards establish benchmarks that impact future learning.  All programming is targeted to give children early support and build a strong knowledge-based foundation.

The Stark County ESC Early Childhood Programs follow Ohio's child care licensing standards.  These guidelines provide a framework for program operation, conditions for teaching, learning, and accountability.  Adults who care for and educate young children also shape the children's understanding of themselves, others and the world around them.
