Substitute Teacher Assistant/Educational Aide

 To be eligible to be added to the substitute teacher assistant/educational aide list for employment in the Stark County ESC early childhood or special education classes, the following items are required to complete your file:


  1. Application for Substitute Teacher Assistant 
    See link in the side column.
  2. A copy of a VALID Ohio Educational Aide Permit with ESEA or a Valid Ohio Teaching or Substitute License.
    If you are not currently licensed in the State of Ohio, see the guide to the right to obtain an educational aide permit.  IMPORTANT:  SCESC requires all educational aide permit holders to be ESEA qualified.  Click here for more information on ESEA.  NOTE:  If you hold a valid standard teaching license, you do NOT need to apply for an educational aide permit. 
  3. Copy of high school diploma or official college transcripts 
    If you are providing college transcripts, you will also need to upload them to ODE when applying for your permit/license.
  4. Acceptance of Conditional Employment
    See link in the side column.  
  5. Non-Conviction Statement
    See link in the side column.
  6. Use of Social Security Number
    See link in the side column.
  7. Original social security card with current name.
    Please present an original, signed social security card.  A copy will be made and the original card will be returned to you.  If you need a replacement card, contact the Social Security Office at 301 McKinley Ave., SW, Canton OH 44702.
  8. Driver’s License (we will make a copy)
  9. Fingerprint/Background Check
    The Stark County ESC offers BCI and FBI fingerprinting services.  This service is available by appointment only.  Click to schedule an appointment.  If your BCI/FBI was completed elsewhere within the past 365 days AND sent to ODE, paper copies of those will be accepted, but we must have a copy in our office.

Additional Information
All required documents can be dropped off at your fingerprint/background check appointment or mailed directly to Stark County ESC, 2100 38th St. NW, Canton, OH  44709.  Applicants will not be placed on the Stark County Substitute Teacher Assistant List until all required paperwork and attachments have been submitted to the Stark County ESC for processing and approval.
