Program for Students With Emotional/Behavioral Disorders (EBD)
The Stark County Educational Service Center's Department of Special Needs/Student Services operates classrooms in collaboration with city and local school districts.  The program for students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (EBD) has classrooms located throughout Stark County.  All SCESC EBD classrooms utilize the Circle of Courage Philosophy, a research-based intervention approach based on the principles of belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity.  Classrooms are offered from first grade through high school.  Transportation to the classrooms is provided by the home school district.
The EBD classrooms are behaviorally and academically focused with a high degree of structure and routine.  Instruction and behavioral interventions are developed around Individual Education Plans (IEPs)  Instruction is implemented in a small group setting or one-on-one.  Interventions and instruction vary to meet each students individualized needs while considering their emotional/behavioral issues and learning styles.  Elementary and middle school students participate in the regular education classroom based on their ability to maintain emotional and academic behaviors as stipulated in their IEP.  High school students also have the opportunity for mainstreaming.  Maximum classroom enrollment is twelve students.  However, only ten may be served within one instructional period.
